Biodegradation Control of Chitosan Materials by Surface Modification with Copolymers of Glycidyl Methacrylate and Alkyl Methacrylates

Chitosan is a promising polymer from natural polysaccharides, which an environmentally friendly compound renewable raw materials. has biodegradability, biocompatibility, and antibacterial other activities. In this article, we report the biodegradation control of chitosan materials by use random copolymers based on glycidyl methacrylate (fluoro)alkyl methacrylates as surface modifiers. We show that grafting allows increasing hydrophobicity with initial contact angles up to 114° 89° for films 154° 123° aerogels. demonstrate modified aerogels retain more than 150° long time water while aerogel fully wets 30 s. The resulting have high porosity pore size 100–200 µm, walls are 0.6–0.7-µm-thick film formations. Our study lyophilic properties substrates showed change in function length hydrocarbon radical side groups copolymers. rate decreases increase number hydrophobic modifier. obtained coatings potential protective layer wound dressings extended service life.
